So, when are you due?

So, when are you due?

You must be excited!

“How far along are you?”

“Your boys must be so excited about their new bother/ or sister….”

“How’s the pregnancy going?”

These questions and more come on a monthly, if not weekly basis. I know I’m chunky in the middle and I have bad posture and I carry my weight the same way a pregnant woman would, but PLEASE, why ask!!?!!?!

And how do I respond?

I’ve done the polite thing by smiling and saying “Oh, I’m not pregnant” and “Who, me? No sorry, I’m not expecting”. And the more abrupt response like “No, sorry. I’m just fat, but thanks for reminding me”, and walking away, making them feel like shit and stupid for asking.

And they should. Maybe the next women like me they see they will know to keep their mouth shut and go about their business.

I get it. It is mostly little old ladies that want to congratulate me, but sometimes it not. In that case, I want to respond by slapping them and asking them where their manners are, along with a few choice words. Luckily, it hasn’t come down to that.

I don’t know. Maybe it’s some kind of sign that I need to lose the extra poundage I’m carrying. Or a reminder that I need to visit a gym, or go for a long walk. But a part of me doesn’t want to give “those people” the satisfaction. I want to do it on my own time, at my own speed. Not giving in to the rude comments, and harsh words.

Anyway, Have any of you experienced this? Has some stranger asked you anything that has upset you, or made you mad? Like “when are you due?” How do you respond?

Leave a comment below and I would love to respond to you!
