Mission Mondays – Walking

Walking…….

So here it goes…

More than a month ago I wrote a post about living a healthier lifestyle. And, well, it is off to a very slow start.

I know, it’s only been 4 or so weeks, but I thought I would start to see some changes. The fact is, I have gained more. Yup, I said it! I gained more weight. It’s not all about what the scale says, I get it, but it’s disheartening.

For the next couple of weeks, I’m going to be trying some really easy steps for losing weight. I have a hard time with change. Well, hard changes that I know I have to change, but don’t really want to put the work in a.k.a losing weight, eating healthy, etc.

I going to call them my MISSIONS! Think of Mission Impossible, but you aren’t going to be saving the world from the bad guys or anything.

I’m starting off with one change, or mission, to do for 10 days straight.

Why 10 days you might ask?

Well, this is my theory. One week is too short and two weeks is too long. As simple as that.

When I try to do something for two weeks, I usually lose momentum or peter out before the two weeks are up. I find it hard to get to the “finish line”, so to speak.

With one week, that can be over too quickly. You just get into your jam, things are going great and then the week is over. Maybe you feel like the change you made doesn’t really stick. You can easily go back to the way things were.

So that’s why I think 10 days is just the right amount of time. (kind of like Goldilocks and the Three Bears, where the third one she chooses is always “Just right!”). It’s the perfect amount of time to feel awesome about what you’ve accomplished. Not too short of time to make a difference, and not too long to be able to conquer that mission.

This is only my way of thinking. So don’t sue me if this doesn’t work for you and is a load of crap. There is no scientific mumbo jumbo to back this up. No great discovery on the theory of this 10-day-mission-plan thing. I’m no expert, trust me!

The Plan

What I would like to do is, every Monday have a Mission to do for the next 10 days. And this is where it will get tricky. Even though you are finishing the first mission, you will be starting a new one the next Monday.

So, let’s start off with something easy. Let’s move and start walking!

Let’s go for a 7 min walk for 10 days straight! Easy! And what are 7 minutes? Sure, you could sort clothes and start a load of laundry in that amount of time. But we have to start putting our health first.

I always like to keep track of my successful day by making a list, starting with day #1 to day #10. And then giving myself a big checkmark. Tomorrow I’ll send out a free printable of what my list looks like and you can print it out for your own reference.

I really hope this is something we can do together and have fun doing it!

  1. Dear Sarah,
I’m really glad that you’ve started writing a blog, I truly enjoy reading them as you are a fantastic writer! Keep up these missions, I’m sure you’ll succeed!
    From your cuz, Mark.

  2. I need to do this … I was really good at being super disciplined for many years, but now eating healthy for 2 days is like pulling teeth. I’ve been trying to walk every day before work to at least get 10 minutes of activity. Maybe adding a new challenge each week will help me make some progress And keep things from feeling stale.

  3. Long time supporter, and thought I’d drop a comment.

Your wordpress site is very sleek – hope you don’t mind me asking what
theme you’re using? (and don’t mind if I steal it? :P)

I just launched my site –also built in wordpress like yours– but the theme slows (!) the
    site down quite a bit.

In case you have a minute, you can find it by searching for “royal cbd” on Google
(would appreciate any feedback) – it’s still in the works.

Keep up the good work– and hope you all take care of yourself during the coronavirus scare!
