Mission Monday – Drinking Water

Time to start drinking water!
How’s Monday going?
Starting this Mission thing can have a slow beginning. I know for myself it was. I didn’t go for a 7-minute walk every day, especially since it snowed lots on Saturday and I decided to just stay inside and stay warm.
Anyway, we need to keep going!
This week I think we need to understand the power of drinking water. For me, I don’t drink enough. We need our bodies to stay hydrated in order to keep going with these missions.

Also, drinking water helps boost your metabolism and cleanse your body of waste. Drinking more water helps your body stop retaining water, leading you to drop extra pounds of water weight. Which all sounds good to me!
So, can drinking water really help you lose weight?
The answer is YES! And here are just a few good reasons why…
Reason #1
Water is a natural appetite suppressant
When your stomach feels full, it sends messages to the brain to stop eating. Water can help to take up space in the stomach, making you feel full and less hungry.
People may also think that they are hungry when they are actually thirsty. Drinking a glass of water before grabbing something to eat can help to curb needless snacking
Reason #2
Water helps to remove waste from the body
When the body is dehydrated, it cannot correctly remove waste as urine or feces.
Water helps the kidneys to clear toxins and waste while the organ keeps key nutrients and electrolytes. When the body is dehydrated, the kidneys retain fluid.
When waste builds up in the body, people may feel bloated, swollen, and tired. Bloating can add inches to a person’s waist.
Staying hydrated is an awesome way to avoid hanging on to the waste, which may add a few extra pounds.
Reason # 3
Drinking water can reduce overall liquid calorie intake
It is way too easy to accumulate liquid calories by drinking soda, juice, or sweetened coffee or tea.
Most people ignore how many calories they consume in sports drinks or alcoholic beverages. ( I am definitely one of them )
Changing even a few high-calorie drinks each day for water or other no-calorie beverages may have long-term weight-loss advantages.
Reason # 4
Water is necessary to burn fat
Without water, the body cannot properly metabolize stored fat or carbohydrates.
“The process of metabolizing fat is called lipolysis. The first step of this process is hydrolysis, which occurs when water molecules interact with triglycerides (fats) to create glycerol and fatty acids.” (not my words)
Drinking enough water is necessary for getting rid of fat from food and drink, as well as stored fat.

So, how much water do I need to drink?
There is no standard advice for how much water to drink. Some people need more or less water, depending on a range of factors like age, body size, activity level, and health status, just to name a few.
“Most health authorities suggest ranges for daily water intake. The following water intake recommendations are from the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) in the United States:” ( again, not my words )
- 2,700 mL/day for adult women
- 3,700 mL/day for adult men

So, let’s get out our water bottles and start DRINKING! You can decide on how much you need to drink, but it should be more than 8 8oz. glasses a day. Just a suggestion!
And if you need a visual checklist, like I do, make sure to use my free printable to keep track of your progress.

That’s it! Happy Drinking! ( water, of course )

I drink a lot of water because if I don’t I get leg cramps at night and they are no fun so I would rather drink lots of water to prevent that. I know as soon as I go to bed if I have not had enough because my toes start cramping and that is it for me till I drink more water or put heat on my feet. So I agree Sarah stay hydrated and now especially with this Coronavirus we need to stay hydrated and healthy.
