The Best Advice

There are so many different words of the best advice you get over the years. I’ve had my share of them. From the childhood song “Read your bible, pray every day” to “Sarah, you have to learn to love yourself”.
One thing I remember is something more of a conversation (with some great advice) I had with my older sister Brenda. I had graduated from high school and was trying to figure out my life and where and what I should do. We hung out in her apartment for a while and then she asked “Why don’t you become a hairstylist? I think you would be amazing at it”. Really? The thought had never really crossed my mind. But the idea stuck and grew in my head. As a result, I was registered to start at Marvel College in October 2000.
This had started my career of hairstyling that I would continue for almost 13 years, off and on. At different salons, at my home, and even at an old age home. I loved it, but it came to a halt when I got sick. Still doing some hair for my family, I had to stop doing it in 2013 when I was unsteady and had some vision loss.
I sill do some haircutting for my boys once and awhile. But I get to know that a had been a great hairstylist. Something I had accomplished. Something that I am proud of. It really was the best advice I had ever received.
I found some great words of the best advice on the internet from different websites that I thought I would share with you. You may know them already, but most people ignore them.

1. Take the time to know yourself.
When you know who you are, you can be smart about your goals, your dreams, your standards, your convictions. Knowing who you allows you to live your life with purpose and meaning.
2. Show up completely.
Don’t live in the past, and don’t daydream about the future, but focus on showing up fully in the present moment.
3. Be patient and persistent.
Life is not so much what you accomplish as what you overcome.
4. In order to get, you have to give.
If you support, guide, and lead others, if you make contributions to their lives, you will receive the best gifts.
5. Be your best at all times.
You never know what the future will bring, so always make the best use of the present.
6. Don’t try to impress everyone.
The unhappiest people are those who care the most about what other people think.

7. Don’t be afraid of being afraid.
Sometimes the one thing you need for growth is the one thing you are most afraid to do.
8. Life’s good, but it’s not fair.
The mislaeding thought that life’s supposed to be fair is the root of much unhappiness.
9. You can’t always get what you want.
But, as the song says if you try you may find you get what you need.
10. Don’t make decisions when you are angry or joyful.
The best decisions are made with a clear and aware mind, not in the middle of any emotion–positive or negative.

11. Don’t worry about what other people think.
Personality begins where likeness goes away. Be unique. Be memorable. Be confident. Be proud.
12. Do what is right, not what is easy.
The spirit of a person leads us to do the right thing, even when there are easier choices..
13. Treat others the way you want to be treated.
Do right. Do your best. Treat others as you would want them to treat you.
14. Learn something new every day.
Have the mindset of a student. Never think you are too old to ask questions or know too much to learn something new.
15. Make what is valuable important.
Instead of thinking about what is profitable, think about what is valuable. Invest in others and you will grow your portfolio.

16. Believe in yourself.
The way you see yourself is the way you will treat yourself, and the way you treat yourself is what you become.
17. Begin each day with a grateful heart.
Pursue an approach of gratitude Every day that we wake up living and breathing, we are given a gift, a clean slate, an opportunity.
18. Finding forgiveness sets you free.
when you forgive someone, release the victim mentality You find freedom, you come back to the present moment and open yourself up to new possibilities in life.
19. Release the need to take things personally
We need to remember that what was said or done has nothing to do with you, and everything to do with them, and it really helps diffuse the situation.
20. If you’re being your true self, you have no battles.
Competition and comparison may run wild in your mind. The solution to this problem is to find out who you are, join up with it, and come back to it, every single day.
