What Always Makes Me Feel Better
Blog – The Rocky Roads of Life Written October 18, 2018

Hello Friends,
When you are feeling sick, sad, upset, or just bad in general, you need something that’s going to cheer you up.
Something that makes you feel better.
Something that picks you up.
And for me, that’s a hug.
I love hugs.
They can always make me feel just that much better
Wikipedia’s defines it like this :
A hug is a form of endearment, universal in human communities, in which two or more people put their arms around the neck, back, or the waist of one another and hold each other closely.
If more than two persons are involved, it is referred to as a group hug.

Also, Research shows that hugging is extremely effective at healing sickness, disease, loneliness, depression, anxiety, and stress.
I found this on the internet.
There is a saying by Virginia Satir, a respected family therapist
“We need four hugs a day for survival.
We need eight hugs a day for maintenance.
We need twelve hugs a day for growth.”

Through the years after my stem cell transplant, I always asked for hugs.
Especially from my boys.
I would be in bed, feeling so sick, and I would ask my boys for a hug and a kiss on my forehead.
I would then tell them I felt so much better, and they must have a magic power that makes mommy feel better.
They would feel so proud of themselves after.
“I can make mommy feel better” they would say with a smile.
Hugs are a great way to express affection.
Hugging someone shows that you care about that person and that you support them through good times and bad.
Receiving a hug can help brighten a bad day.

o, really. What are you waiting for?
Give someone a hug.
They probably need it more than you know.
And it will make you feel better too!
Love,
