Earliest Childhood Memories

Blog – The Rocky Roads of Life Written October 15, 2018

Hello Friends,

Although I have a lot of childhood memories, they are just bits and pieces of memory.

And the earliest…

I feel horrible that I don’t remember much. Or maybe that’s just normal.

I have a couple that I can write about.

You know when you are a little girl and you want to be just like your older sisters….

Well, that was me!

The details of this memory are very hazy.

I remember being in a store and standing in front of a display of lipsticks.

I was enamored.

So many colors. So many to choose from.

So, as any young girl (I was maybe 5 or 6) would do, she would want to pick one and look closely at it.

And I wanted the one that was on the top shelf.

Oh, and did I mention that the display was made of glass….

Standing on my tippy toes, I reached up and grabbed the tube of lipstick that I had my eye on.

Not only did I got it, but I managed to take the whole display down with it.

The glass shelves came crashing down onto the floor in front of me.

I stood still, in shock and wide-eyed.

I didn’t know what to do.

So I started to cry like any child would do.

I don’t remember what happened next, but I’m pretty sure I got In big trouble

Living on an acreage as a young girl was always fun.

There are just so many little memories.

But there is the one I distinctly remember.

It was a hot summer night.

My mom had just put Elaine and me to bed.

It was hot and light out still.

After about 15 minutes, after hearing my mom leave, Brenda came into my room.

She had the brilliant idea to go swimming in our pond.

Our little pond was so yucky,  More like a swamp.

But it sounded fun. And I was so hot in bed.

I jumped out and followed Brenda outside.

We got in a little rowboat that we had in the pond and started splashing around and having a great time.

We were only in there about five minutes when in horror, we saw mom coming back down the country roads.

She must’ve forgotten something.

We thought we would have more time.

We jumped out of the boat and ran inside.

I was soaking wet, and a bit smelly from the pond water.

I went into my room and shut the door.

I jumped under the covers, praying that we had not been seen.

But that was wishful thinking.

Our mother had seen us, and there were wet footprints all over the floor.

She came into my room and pulled back my covers.

She was furious.

I think she was madder that I had gotten into bed with wet, stinky pajamas.

Well, I think I will stop there.

I probably could go on with more little tidbits of memories,

But maybe for another post.

It’s fun thinking back on your childhood.

Remember things, that when you look back now, you can probably have a good laugh at.

Love
