I don’t usually read books, I listen to them. I love audiobooks for two main reasons. First of all, because my eyes aren’t up to reading the small print. They tend to go all blurry with reading one page. I’ve tried a large print book, but my eyes still go all funky. And secondly, with that problem, reading can go SO SLOW! I feel like I need to re-read a paragraph over and over just to see if I have missed anything.
But, with audiobooks, I can listen to a book in less than a week. With headphones on, I can listen when I ride the bus, go for walks, do household chores and mow the lawn. I even listen to a book to fall asleep. Which can sometimes backfire on me because I want to keep listening to the next part since it gets so exciting and before I know it, it’s 2 am and I need to go to sleep!
Lately, I have been listening to suspense and mystery novels. I have moved away from romance. I am too old for that!! I was in my 20’s when I was infatuated with romance books, but I am now close to my 40’s and I’m past all that, haha!

The last novel I listened to was SO good! The book is called Last Words by Michael Koryta. I will give you a brief description of the story, but I won’t give anything away.
Mark Novak is a private investigator and has just accepted a new case while still mourning the recent death of his wife,
In the town of Garrison, on the same day that Mark’s wife died, the body of a teenage girl was pulled from the large and dangerous cave system under Southern Indiana. The man who retrieved the girl’s body and believed to be her killer, claims to be innocent and begs Mark to figure out what really happened.
For Mark to solve this crime, he must search beneath the town’s surface and must match the intelligence of a man who knows the caverns better than anyone: a man who seemed to have gone somewhat insane — a man who seems to know Mark a little too well.
You have to read/listen to the to get the craziness that happens. This book will keep you on your toes and wanting to know what comes next.
Paula’s Review

This is the first time I have read a book by Michael Koryta. GR friend, Peter, rated this 5 stars, so I thought I’d give Last Words a go. Wow, was this a terrific Thriller. I listened to the audiobook and couldn’t get enough of it. Always nice when you get into a book that makes you not mind the commute to and from work.
The book centers around Mark Novak, a Florida investigator sent to Indiana on a cold case. What twists unfold when he gets into town. He meets quite a few interesting characters from the sheriff, the ex-boyfriend of the murdered Sarah Martin to a weird individual named Ridley Barnes. Everyone is quite hostile to him and cause Mark much grief and harm. Terrific storyline.
What makes this thriller so exciting is that the crime was committed in a huge area of underground caves called Trapdoor.
Always excited about finding a new author to read. The story behind Mark Novak is in another of his books which I look forward to exploring.
My Thoughts on This Book
I loved that this book had a lot of stuff you may not know about. It really explains in detail what it’s like to go caving/spelunking. the fear and emotions that go through one’s mind. It also touches on hypnosis, which I never thought much of till I read the book. I’m really excited to listen to the sequel!
All in all, I believe this book to be a 4.5/5. My rating, of course! But read it for your self and let me know what you think. I love to get your opinion on it. And then we could discuss it in the comments below. Think of it as a mini-book club or something like it. Suggest a book that I should read. I always love to listen to new books!
I have put a link to Amazon if you would like to purchase this novel! Happy reading!
